Transport inspection on Highway 11 in Temagami results in 23 charges

Temagami OPP, stopped a CMV on Highway 11 in Temagami and completed a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspection on the vehicle and the trailer.

OPP stopped and inspected a transport on Highway 11 in Temagami resulting in numerous charges and the vehicle placed out of service. 

On Wednesday, April 2, at 12:40 a.m., police completed a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspection on the vehicle and the trailer. Officers discovered several significant defects, resulting in several charges against the driver and the operator. 

A 30-year-old driver of Rocky View, Alberta, is charged with:

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Driving under licence of another jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario 
  • Failure to surrender permit for motor vehicle 
  • Failure to surrender permit for trailer 
  • Failure to surrender insurance card 
  • Failure to surrender CVOR certificate 
  • Failing to enter defects in the daily inspection report
  • Operate unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle 
  • Improperly driving a commercial motor vehicle with a minor defect in it or a drawn vehicle 
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or a drawn vehicle 
  • Defective brakes - commercial motor vehicle 
  • Improper brakes on trailer - commercial motor vehicle 
  • Push rod stroke exceeds prescribed limit- commercial motor vehicle 
  • Improper tires - drawn vehicle - commercial motor vehicle 
  • Failure to have required lamps 
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit - commercial motor vehicle 

 The company from Calgary, Alberta, is also charged with:

  • Permit unlicensed person to drive commercial motor vehicle 
  • Permit operation of unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle 
  • Improper brakes on trailer - commercial motor vehicle 
  • Defective brakes - commercial motor vehicle  
  • Push rod stroke exceeds prescribed limit- commercial motor vehicle 
  • Improper tires - drawn vehicle - commercial motor vehicle  
  • Failure to ensure performance standards are met

Also, as a result of the defects, officers removed the annual inspection sticker, seized the licence plates, and placed the vehicle out of service.
