(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On February 15, 2008 police received a call to attend a local grocery store regarding a possible theft.

On scene police learned that the suspect allegedly walked by a cashier with items in a grocery cart and left the store without paying.

Police located and arrested the suspect.

Charged with Theft Under is Douglas CAMERON (40) of Elliot Lake. CAMERON is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2008.


R.I.D.E. PROGRAM EFFECTIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On February 17, 2008 officers of the East Algoma OPP were conducting a R.I.D.E. program at the intersection of Highway 108 and Oakland Boulevard.

Police stopped a vehicle at approximately 1:29 a.m. and charged the driver.

Charged with Over 80 is Serge Marcel J. Godbout (20) of Elliot Lake. GODBOUT is scheduled to appear in court on April 8, 2008.


OPP AND S.T.O.P. OFFICERS OUT ON THE WEEKEND

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP and S.T.O.P. officers patrolled trails during this past weekend. 67 sleds were checked with 1 permit related charges laid and 1 not proper vehicle documentation charge was issued.

Police remind the public that an OFSC trail permit is required when riding the trails. Always have your proof of ownership, proof of insurance and driver’s licence with you.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY TURNED INTO OPP

Tuesday 12 February 2008 at 12:19 pm – Manitoulin OPP received a call from the Little Current Branch of the Toronto Dominion Bank advising that they received a counterfeit $20.00 bill in the night deposits. Upon investigation it was learned that the false bill had passed through local businesses in Little Current unsuspectedly. Upon examination of the counterfeit it was easily termined to be counterfeit as the paper quality and security features were missing. Constable Allan Boyd Community services Officer with the Manitoulin OPP advises that businesses should be making an effort to train their employee’s in counterfeit money detection. “With the new security features placed in the present currency it only takes a second to see if it is real or not” commented Constable Boyd. “As community services officer I would be more than happy to talk with businesses and train employee’s on counterfeit detection just give me a call.”

MANITOULIN MAN CHARGED WITH RESIST ARREST

On Tuesday 12 February 2008 at 6:15 pm Manitoulin OPP were called about an intoxicated male and concerns for his safety being out in the cold weather in the community of Manitowaning. Two officers from the Wikwemikong Tribal Police located the male on Cardwell Street in Manitowaning. Shortly there after an OPP officer arrived. The male who was acting aggressively towards the officers when attempts were made to take the man into custody he allegedly resisted the officers. As a result of this investigation Christopher BISSON age 34 of Wikwemikong, Ontario has been charged with 2 counts of Assault with intent to resist arrest and one count of Breach of Probation. He was remained into custody to appear on Wednesday the 13th Feb 08 in Wikwemikong Bail Court.
