DRIVER CHARGED AFTER FAILING TO STOP

(Blind River, ON.) On October 20, 2009 at 9:30 am an officer from the East Algoma OPP detachment was conducting traffic patrol just east of Blind River on Highway 17 when he came across a white Dodge pickup travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle at which time a radar reading of 152 km/h was received. With emergency lights and siren activated the truck continued westbound into Blind River until another officer arrived and the police were able to get the truck stopped. The occupants were removed from the truck and taken into custody. The three passengers were later released without charges. The drive, 21 year old Christine KONRAD from Stienbach Manitoba was also released but has been charged with:

1) Racing a Motor Vehicle Section 172(1), Highway Traffic Act
2) Failing to Stop for Police Section 216, Highway Traffic Act
3) Speeding 50+ over the Limit, Highway Traffic Act

As with racing charges the truck was seized for 7 days. KONRAD is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court in Blind River on January 21, 2010.
