5:15 p.m. update:

Ontario 511 says Highway 17 north has reopened at Batchawana.

11:15 a.m. update:
The OPP is reporting that the Highway 17 north closure is due in part to numerous tractor trailers being stuck and blocking lanes on Montreal River hill.

Original 10 a.m. information:
All lanes of Highway 17 north are closed at Batchawana due to adverse winter weather conditions.

The closure was reported by MTO shortly before 9 a.m. today.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area, including Searchmont, Montreal River Harbour, and Batchawana Bay.

Heavy snowfall is expected to result in accumulations of 15 to 25 cm by tonight.

SooToday will post additional information as it becomes available.
