Why risk it ? There are plenty of other places to eat. How does one know if a place has been downgraded by the health department.??

A few things to note about the Algoma Public Health inspection online reports: they don't actually give an overall hazard rating, and they don't actually give any details on what the inspectors found when they did the inspection -- just the title of any requirement the restaurant didn't meet.

Compare an inspection from the Algoma Public Health site with something like the Vancouver Island Health Authority and you'll see how much more useful they could be.

Typically there is a sign in the front window advising the public of the latest inspection results.

I've seen restaurants get a conditional rating that they corrected that day, and received an all clear the next day.

Lots of people are taking their kids to child care centres that don’t meet minimum standards?

Algoma Public Health would Put the 3 sink system in our homes if they could.

Totally unaware of what it does and how well the Health Unit works and I just hope for the best and assume it's on guard for you and me. Isn't that what Canada is all about? Standing on guard for thee? I'm just afraid that if I knew too much I might not want to eat out again and that would be a true tragedy. Call me HBITS (hint: H is for head, S is for sand) and in this case, it's my only choice.

I will also refuse to eat at an establishment that serves Halal meat.

Shadow.... Why?

Why ?

What about kosher then ?

...and since most restaurants don't say Halal or not (especially chicken) you wouldn't know. Many local independant butchers serve only Halal chicken.

Why?
All that means is the animal was killed in a humane way
All the chicken wings that are served in Restaurants all over town are from South America and are Halal

with how busy the "fast food" places are here not many care about how clean the restaurants are.

If you go when the fast food places are busy, the food is coming fresh off the grills. It's when they are slow and things sit for a long time under the heat lamps that you should worry.

Fast food places are cleaner then resturants jsuk.

Fast food is no longer cheaper food. I find many places that are not FAST FOOD no more expensive.

Good point Soojavu. I’ve noticed the same over the last couple of years. You can get a sit down meal for only a couple of bucks more than a “combo”.

Soojavu... Most "fast food" places are no longer fast.
