SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH - The Sugar Island Ferry is operating intermittently and transiting across the St. Marys River. Although operating more reliably, service delays are expected to continue. While transiting the St. Marys River to the Straits of Mackinac, the CGC Biscayne Bay suffered a casualty to one of its main diesel engines. No personnel are injured and no pollution is reported. The CGC Biscayne Bay is safely transiting to St. Ignace for repairs and is out of service for the foreseeable future.
The crew of the CGC Mackinaw is recalled and the ship will sail this evening to the Straits of Mackinac to clear a waterway restriction. The cutter will then transit to St. Clair for their next assignment.
