MACKINAW, CITY, MICH. — A unified command has been established to assess damage to the Consumers Energy cables near McGulpin Point, Mich., Tuesday.
The McGulpin Point Unified Command consists of members from the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Coast Guard and Consumers Energy.
Consumers Energy is developing a plan, under the oversight of the unified command, to respond to the damage to their de-energized, retired cables in the Straits of Mackinac.
The company reported that there is no free flowing fluid within their armored, solid-centered cable.
Consumers Energy is working to obtain a sample of the affected line to test for chemical properties within the 46 kV cable.
The Point LeBarbe Unified Command completed its operations Sunday and transitioned all new operations to the McGulpin Point Unified Command.
