U.S. Coast Guard, police search for missing person near Rapid City, Michigan

RAPID CITY, MICH. - The U.S. Coast Guard and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department are searching Lake Skegemog near Rapid City and the surrounding area for a possible missing person, Tuesday.

John Murray White, 46, of Traverse City did not report to work Monday and was last seen Saturday according to a report made to the the sheriff's department.

The Coast Guard received a call at about 5 p.m. local time from the sheriff's department requesting assistance after a kayak was located in the northern end of Lake Skegemog. One life jacket was found inside the kayak and another was located about 150 yards away.

The Coast Guard launched an aircrew aboard an MH-60 helicopter from Air Station Traverse City and searched for about two hours. The search has since been suspended for the night and will resume at first light Wednesday.
