For the first time, five community arts organizations have come together to promote and celebrate Sault Ste. Marie’s vibrant arts, culture and heritage sector.
The Algoma Fall Festival, Algoma Conservatory of Music, West End Theatre Project, Algoma Repertory Theatre and Sault Symphony Orchestra have joined up to present Savour the Season, a month-long arts and culinary festival showcasing live performances and seasonal menus across the city.
Savour the Season kicked off Oct 15.
“Savour the Season really highlights how much the Sault has going on in the arts and culture scene,” said Sara McCleary, Director of Advancement for the Sault Symphony Orchestra. “We’re only a few months into being able to again hold live events and we’ve already got so much happening. Having all those events promoted together will really help to build excitement in the community.”
The Sault Symphony Orchestra is offering two concerts as part of Savour the Season.
First is a free virtual concert, Fall Colours, on Oct. 16 at 7pm. “Fall Colours will feature two large ensembles of orchestra members playing a selection of classical pieces,” added McCleary. “Then, we’re making our long-awaited return to live performances the evening of Oct. 22 as we partner with the Sault Museum for an intimate string performance with refreshments provided by Broers Jansen.”

Alongside these concerts, Savour the Season is headlined by Algoma Fall Festival’s Celtic Celebration -- a lively evening of performances by The Wild Turkeys, The Fretless and The Slocan Ramblers; performances at the Algoma Conservatory of Music’s stunning new venue, THE LOFT; and the return of the wildly popular Evil Dead the Musical which has been revived for a second run.
The festival’s inaugural year will also introduce All Together Now, presented by The Westend Theatre Project. This global musical event celebrates local theatre and is scheduled to run during the weekend of November 12.
“We are presenting a revue of music from various musicals, featuring some songs that have never been performed on our stage locally,” said Lucas Beaver, Artistic Director of the West End Theatre Project. “We are also showcasing the talents of 50+ local performers including solos, duets, small groups to large production numbers.
The other interesting thing about this project is that almost every show will be different, we are alternating performers for some of the solos. We really wanted to showcase as many people as we could.”
The West End Theatre Project is one of thousands of theatrical organizations in 35+ countries presenting All Together Now during the November 12th weekend. Tickets can be purchased on the West End Theatre Project’s website.
To add local flavour to these performances, Giovanni’s, Casey’s and The View are offering seasonal, multi-course prix fixe dining options starting at $29 for the duration of the festival.
