Families searching for something more than traditional support services will find a refreshing, person-directed approach at Mariposa Developmental Support Services (Mariposa), a new organization in town that is reimagining what meaningful, inclusive care can look like for youth and adults with developmental disabilities.

At its heart, Mariposa was created to fill the gaps many families experience in conventional support models, not only in terms of programming, but also in connection, flexibility, and community. Here, individuals are not just enrolled in a service; they are seen, valued, and welcomed into something meaningful.

Join the Grand Opening Celebration!

  • Location: 105B White Oak Drive East
  • Date: Saturday, May 31
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • What to Expect: Refreshments, music, a chance to meet the team, and a tour of the new space
  • Who’s Invited: Community members, families, supporters – everyone is welcome!
  • First Day of Programming: Monday, June 2

What makes Mariposa different?

Mariposa offers a flexible mix of programs designed to support a wide range of abilities and needs. From structured daytime routines to respite services and social recreation events, each program is built around the interests and goals of the individuals served. It is a place where people can build life skills, make connections, and feel a real sense of belonging, whether attending for a few hours or several days each week.

What truly sets Mariposa apart is its person-directed approach. Programs are not one-size-fits-all. Instead, they are thoughtfully designed in collaboration with individuals and families to reflect their choices, voices, and aspirations.

“We believe that people thrive when they are given room to grow in their own way,” says Christiana Lamothe-Szatanski, Managing Director. “It’s less about fitting people into systems and more about building programs that fit people.”

More than services – a community

Families can engage with Mariposa in many ways. Some join programming directly, while others get involved through volunteering or co-creating new initiatives. The Mariposa Advisory Council (M.A.C.) also offers a unique opportunity for families and community members to provide feedback and help shape future programming. Those interested in joining M.A.C. or contributing in other ways are encouraged to reach out.

Whether seeking support, respite, or simply wanting to learn more about inclusive opportunities, the community is invited to stop by on May 31 to meet the team, explore the space, and be part of something new.

For more information about programs or ways to get involved, visit during the grand opening or connect directly with the team.

Together, something is being built that goes beyond services – a community where everyone belongs.
