We humans may be terrestrial animals, but there’s no denying our connection to water. Just look at our design: most of the human body is water, being made up of about 60% water on average. When viewed through that lens, you can start to appreciate the true value of the water services provided locally by Culligan of Sault Ste. Marie

“Water is important to everyone,” said Matthew Giulietti, General Coordinator for Culligan of Sault Ste Marie, a company has over 50 years of institutional knowledge in working with the area’s local water. “Water is something you use every day, for drinking, for showering, for cooking. It’s something you interact with more than any other utility. And you want that water to be safe.”

In its current configuration as  water service company operating as a division of Arrow Plumbing Inc., the team at Culligan of Sault Ste Marie focuses on everything water related from the well to the tap in your residential or commercial property. That means handling things like the installation of well pumps, jet pumps, water lines, pressure systems and of course water conditioners and filtration. An additional element of their service is education and making sure people have clarity in terms of understanding their water service.

“There is a lot of information out there in regard to water,” said Giulietti. People have access to more information than ever before, and the amount of information can be overwhelming. There’s more danger from chemicals and other pollutants than ever before.  We can help answer the questions people have.”

The team at Culligan of Sault Ste. Marie have developed their expertise through the evolution of the business, which began in the early 1970s. The company was originally known as Arrow Plumbing Inc. and was founded by Elgin Harten, who was somewhat of a legend amongst local contractors and whose focus was plumbing contracting along with concrete manufacturing. In 1985, the company opened a 2,500-square-foot plumbing retail showroom in the local industrial park. During this, Arrow Plumbing grew into one of the largest contractors in the area. Suppling and installing concrete septic tanks, burial vaults and cisterns to the Algoma region. Arrow was managed by Elgin’s daughter, Beverley Harten-Reid, and in 1987, Elgin’s son-in-law, Dan Reid, joined the team.

Under the stewardship of Bev and Dan Reid, now majority shareholders, the company undertook a huge expansion, building a larger 7,500-square-foot retail store at 1133 Great Northern Road. This expansion brought many new product lines, and the company soon became the largest lighting and bath store in the area. Then in 1992, the Reids became franchise owners, opening a Culligan Water dealership and adding it to their growing operation.

The year 1995 brought about more exciting changes. Company owners recognized the  need to acquire more buying power, and so they became a Home Hardware dealer. Since that move the company has experienced continued growth. In April of 2001, Dan and Bev Reid purchased the local Beaver Lumber operation, amalgamating the two into the Home Hardware Building Centre at their large Second Avenue location.

Elgin sold his concrete manufacturing division in 2003, retiring to mark the end of an era; however, as a master plumber he remained a strong mentor for the business.

Culligan Water Conditioning was now operating out of a separate storefront location at 1092 Great Northern Road. That continued until 2008, when the Reids decided to sell off the Home Hardware Building Centre to concentrate on their thriving Culligan business. Their son, Joshua Reid, is a licensed plumber who is now overseeing the water business.  The company now concentrates on water conditioning, plumbing, and pump and well systems, recently moving to a new location at 25 Drive In Road.

All the experience means Culligan is your go to choice for anything to do with your precious water system.
