This trusted, locally owned business has been committed to Sault Ste. Marie from day one. The staff at local dealership Northside Toyota have been putting people first for 30 incredible years.
And what a journey it has been, from a small dealership in Northern Ontario to becoming a leading name in the business. Right from the start, the team built their reputation on exceptional service, quality products and integrity.
“It’s not just an anniversary—it’s a celebration of community, trust and the road ahead,” says Mario Palumbo, Dealer Principal. “As we celebrate this milestone, we hope to be recognized not just for selling vehicles, but for building long-standing relationships, supporting our community, and delivering an exceptional ownership experience from the showroom to service and beyond.”
History
The mission at Northside Toyota has always been to offer the finest selection of new and pre-owned vehicles, and to provide the best sales and service experience.
In the 1970s, Frank Palumbo, President, worked as a sales consultant for Travelade Toyota. In 1995, the Palumbo family purchased the dealership.
Since then, he brought in his son Mario as Dealer Principal. Mario attended the University of Ottawa, graduating with a Baccalaureate Honours Degree in Business. As a student, he worked during the summer months, learning every aspect of the dealership—working as a Shuttle Driver, Product Advisor and Financial Services Manager.
In 2005, Mario, who shares the same values and commitment that Northside Toyota built their reputation on, joined the team full-time.
The dealership moved to its new location at 803 Great Northern Road in 2011, a move they regarded as an investment in both their customers and the community.
“From the day we opened our doors, our goal has always been more than just selling cars—it has been about building relationships, earning trust, and treating every customer like family,” says Frank Palumbo, President. “Over the past three decades, through changing times and challenges, we stayed true to those values and your continued support has meant the world to us. Thank you for the past 30 years and allowing us to serve you as your locally-owned Toyota dealer.”
Of course none of their success could have been possible without their loyal customers, dedicated staff and local partnerships.
“29 years of service has taught me that it’s not just about work—it’s about the people you serve and the pride you take in doing right. It has been a journey filled with growth, exciting opportunities and incredible people. I’m honoured to have spent these years making a difference one day at a time,” says Peter, Northside Toyota’s Service Manager.
Vicky, Northside Toyota’s Controller, has worked for the Palumbos since 1990. “I've truly come to appreciate the fast pace and energy of the dealership,” she says. “Every day brings something new and I genuinely enjoy being part of the Northside team.”
The dealership has always been community-oriented. Over the past 30 years, they have consistently given back to the communities that have sustained them, donating thousands of dollars to area businesses, charities and sports teams. Recipients have included HSCDSB, ADSB, YMCA, SSM Soup Kitchen, Thrive, ARCH, Rotary Club, Heart and Stroke, the Sault Area Hospital Foundation, charity golf tournaments and youth hockey and soccer teams—and this is just a partial list.
“As the years have gone by, we have enjoyed giving back to the community through local sponsorships, youth sports teams and charitable organizations. We have built relationships that have lasted generations and had the privilege of supporting this city that has supported us,” says Mario.
They’ve also developed many meaningful relationships with customers. Don Ford became part of the Northside family 16 years ago. “My brother had passed, he was a real car guy and had recommended Northside. He had a history with most dealerships in Sault Ste. Marie but Frank and Mario were the only dealership to send flowers,” Don recalls. “These are real people who deal with you personally, fairly and honestly! My wife and I have had their vehicles for 16 years and will continue.”
“To all our past and current customers: thank you for your continued support over the years. We truly wouldn’t be where we are without the community,” says Mario. “We have evolved over the years from a smaller location at 61 Great Northern Road to where we are currently located at 803 Great Northern Road. This evolution has allowed us to better serve you in all aspects of our business.”
“I’m incredibly proud of what we have built, where we started and to everyone who has made this possible—thank you.”
