Sault College's School of Business is undergoing an exciting transformation as it adds its cutting-edge two-year Business Marketing and Human Resources programs to its wide range of diploma and degree programs, apprenticeships and graduate studies.
These new programs, which are attracting students from around the world, are led by experienced full-time professors who are subject matter experts in the business world.
The goal? To future-proof marketing and HR leaders through an experience that equips them for success in an ever-changing world.
"The biggest challenge as educators is preparing students for change," says Professor Kevin Hemsworth, who brings over a decade of experience in the School of Business, in public and private sectors in marketing and communications, human resources and information technology (IT) and as the founder of two marketing companies. "The key is to push our students outside of their comfort zones, challenging them to explore new ideas, approaches, and perspectives that force them to think differently."
Hemsworth is focused on providing students real-world business experiences to give them a competitive edge in the workforce. This includes forming partnerships that allow students to earn grades for their work while helping entrepreneurs with business planning and execution.
“The business marketing program at Sault College set the stage for all of the great accomplishments I’ve had over the years,” explains Franca Liguori, Senior Product Manager, National Draw Games at Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG). “The hands-on instructors and real-life experiences created an opportunity that I could expand on and put into action in the entertainment and gaming industry.”
“It’s exciting to see a newly-developed marketing program at Sault College, which will develop future marketing leaders right here in my home town of Sault Ste. Marie and benefit local businesses.”
The Human Resources program, led by experienced HR professionals, emphasizes the skills that HR professionals need to succeed. Focusing on HR information systems, company culture and digital transformation, students learn how to place the right people in the right jobs, helping organizations remain competitive in the ever-changing business landscape.
The role of human resources is highly valued in Canada and plays a crucial role in all industries. There is a constant demand for HR managers, professionals, and recruiters.

Sault College students benefit from small class sizes, allowing for personal connections and valuable relationships to form through the program. Many instructors stay in touch with alumni, offering support and guidance in their careers.
"The best part of my job is the connection I make with my students," Hemsworth said. "It's a privilege for me to be a part of their learning and career journeys, and I want to see and help them succeed no matter where their path takes them."
