Many of us have been seduced by a good bakery, but a warm, family-run, local bakery is downright impossible to resist.

At Tuomo’s Stubbornly Finnish Food, they hold onto their roots with pride, offering high-quality, hand-crafted Finnish baked goods, coffee, and deli treats that feel like a taste of home. It’s the kind of place where tradition meets passion in every bite.

“Our business is an authentic, heartfelt celebration of Finnish heritage,” says co-owner Billy Taylor. “Everyone is welcome, whether you’re Finnish or not.”

This local gem blends delicious goodies with a real cultural experience, and includes imported Finnish goods that add a unique flair.

  • Frozen soups (rotating selection): hearty beef stew, chicken stew, broccoli cheddar, butternut squash
  • Finnish coffee

The backstory

In 2014, Tuomo Vuohijoki started baking Finnish treats to sell at the Mill Market in Sault Ste. Marie. His daughter, Trina, helped out, handling sales and all of the logistics, while at the same time learning the art of baking from her Isä (father).

Five years later, he decided to hand the reins over to Trina and her husband, Billy.

The couple are happy to do what they can for the community, and they donate the bakery’s leftover bread and treats to Harvest Algoma.

While the business doesn’t offer seating at this time, they do plan to in the future. In the meantime, stop by and explore the menu, making sure to pick up a few treats to take home and share.
