The beginning of a new year is a time for fresh starts, and there is a new health spa in town to guide you on your wellness journey.

Tianna McCuaig opened Jenesis Medical Aesthetics in August 2024, and has seen local excitement for the services that she’s brought to the Soo. The clinic offers botox and filler injections, vitamin B12 shots, medical grade chemical peels, micro-channelling, Plexr plasma, and more.

If some of these procedures are new to you, Tianna is happy to explain. Microchanneling is similar to microneedling, but a little easier on the skin. It is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates collagen production and helps treat scarring, rosacea, and signs of aging.

Tianna first began offering Plexr plasma in October, which isn’t offered anywhere else locally. The Plexr is a handheld device used to perform what is known as “soft surgery”. It is a non-surgical alternative used to perform eyelid lifts, skin tightening on the face or body, and any type of lesion removal, such as moles, warts, and skin tags.

In addition to offering lesion removal, Tianna treats keloid scars, which can occur when a physician lances a mole and scar tissue builds up. She is able to flatten the tissue and return the colour of the area to as close to the patients’ skin tone as possible.

So far, Tianna says that the most popular services at her new clinic have been botox, fillers, and anything to do with the Plexr plasma. ‘It’s so new to the Soo and I’ve had some pretty great results,” she says.

There is a stigma about botox, injections and filler that sometimes cause people to shy away from looking into these procedures. Tianna says that many patients express concerns about looking fake or having people notice that they’ve had ‘work done.’ Tianna’s approach to her work is to keep her patients in their 50s and 60s looking as natural as possible. “Yes you might look even five years younger, but you’re not going to look like a 20-year-old— because that’s unachievable.”

“I didn’t go through all this training to make my clients look unnatural” she adds. “I take pride in the results I produce in my clinic, and the photos I post to the public display that. It’s all about showing the community the real results that came straight from my clinic, and not a stock image that a product manufacturer sends you to show for advertising.”

With every booking there is an initial consult, during which Tianna goes over her patients’ medical history and allergies. She does her work under a medical director who prescribes the botox, fillers, and anything else required for the treatments.

During their conversation, Tianna then asks her patients what they would like to see, and makes treatment recommendations based on that, making it customized to every patient. “I’m not there to tell you ‘no you can’t do that, yes you can do that’, but I am there to educate you and find the best treatment approach so we can achieve results.”

The most consistent positive feedback she receives is that she makes her patients feel comfortable and confident that they can ask her questions. After she treats them, Tianna tells patients that they can text her with any questions, even if they’re just feeling anxious after the procedure.

New in 2025, Jenesis Medical Aesthetics will start offering a head spa, a relaxing and therapeutic experience for the scalp. Each head spa treatment plan will be designed to address the patients’ concern, whether it’s simply cleaning hair follicles or treating hair loss or excessive dandruff.

Tianna is looking forward to her second year of running a business in the community she was raised in. She also works at Sault Area Hospital as a registered respiratory therapist, and finds fulfillment in her roles inside and outside of the hospital.

“I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to help people both inside and out of a hospital environment, just in different ways. People underestimate the importance of how a person’s confidence can impact their everyday lives and health, and it’s important to take care of that too.”
