Throughout the duration of the Olympics, there was continued controversy regarding the treatment of the LGBTQ community in Russia. Here in Canada, many communities raised the rainbow pride flag to show support of the LGBTQ athletes competing in the Sochi Winter Olympics. To-date, the city of Sault Ste. Marie has chosen not to fly the rainbow flag, unlike other Ontario cities including London, Barrie, Toronto and Ottawa. Local2's Jasmyn Rowley spoke with people on both sides of the issue: local LGBTQ advocate Teddy Syrette, and City Councillor Terry Sheehan, who was acting Mayor for the month of February.
