Arnold Heino has withdrawn his candidacy as the People’s Party of Canada candidate for the Sault Ste. Marie - Algoma riding in the April 28 election.

Heino told SooToday on Thursday that he has withdrawn for ‘unforeseen personal reasons.’

He also ran as the New Blue Party candidate for Sault Ste. Marie in the Feb. 27 provincial election, picking up 564 votes.

Heino finished with 1.86 per cent of the vote, behind the three main party candidates, but placed ahead of the Green Party and Ontario Party candidates.

"We thank him for his contributions to the Party and wish him the very best moving forward," said the PPC team in an email.

Harry Jaaskelainen has agreed to run in his place.

The final day for candidates to register is April 7.
