Sault police say they arrested a person trying to break into a home on MacDonald Avenue Tuesday morning, armed with a collapsible baton, bear mace, a pry bar and a prohibited knife.
Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of MacDonald around 9:30 a.m. on May 30 after someone phoned 911, according to a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. Officers located the suspect nearby, police say.
Tristen Vipond, 27, is charged with 10 offences, including:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (three counts)
- Breaking and entering with intent
- Possession of break-in instrument
- Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon (two counts)
- Possession contrary to order (two counts)
- Failure to comply with probation order
Vipond was was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
