A 34-year-old is facing multiple charges after police say a driver plowed his truck into an east-end business yesterday afternoon.
Around 2:10 p.m. on Monday, Sault Police say they received 911 calls from the both the suspect and a staff member, reporting a dispute at a business in the 600 block of Trunk Road.
"Shortly thereafter, 911 Communicators received a report from the business that the accused had driven their truck through the front door of the building and then left the scene," says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Officers arrived to find significant damage to the building, which houses the Northland Animal Hospital. One person also sustained minor injuries from flying glass and was treated, police say.
Police say the driver phoned 911 again while officers were still at the scene to say he was going to police headquarters to turn himself in.
At 2:35 p.m., the suspect was arrested at the police station.
Christopher Dupuis is charged with:
- assault with weapon
- dangerous operation
- mischief over $5,000
He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Aug. 26, 2024.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Dupuis is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
