A person who Sault Ste. Marie Police say was found asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle has been charged with impaired driving.
Police say a 911 call brought them to a parking lot in the 200 block of Bay Street at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday.
Once officers woke the driver up, they suspected the individual may be impaired by drugs.
“Officers conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and the accused performed poorly,” police alleged in a news release.
“The accused was arrested and transported to the Police Services Building to undergo evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The DRE concluded the accused was impaired by drugs.”
Toni Binda, 41, has been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
