A suspected impaired driver is facing multiple charges after a motorist pulled into a Sault gas station, filled their tank, and took off — with the fuel nozzle still inside the vehicle.
On Sunday at around 8 p.m., multiple people phoned 911 to report a “vehicle being driven erratically on Second Line West” before stopping at an unidentified gas station.
“The accused got out of the vehicle, pumped some gas into the vehicle, then drove off without paying and with the nozzle still in the vehicle, damaging the gas pump,” says a news release issued this morning by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Police say officers caught up to the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver provided two breath samples that registered over the legal limit for alcohol.
Harshdeep Singh, 28, is charged with:
• Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80+
• Theft Under $5,000
• Mischief
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on May 27.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Singh is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
