One man is dead following a shooting on Bruce Avenue in the Donovan neighbourhood of Greater Sudbury late Thanksgiving Monday night.
Details are few at this hour, but police tweeted just after midnight Tuesday that the incident appears to have been targeted. They believed the suspects had left the area.
Sudbury.com has reached out to Greater Sudbury Police for more information.
When Sudbury.com visited the scene near the Lighthouse co-op complex just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, the only signs anything had happened were two unoccupied, parked police vehicles and some police tape in a wooded area between the co-op and the home next door.
A neighbour told Sudbury.com that between 10:30 and 11 p.m. last night “I heard five to 10 bangs, and then I saw a big flash,” she said, adding that at first she thought maybe it was fireworks.
Until the shooting, the homeowner had “heard nothing, which is kind of shocking, now that I think about it.”
The person said a cruiser was parked in the yard overnight as police did their investigation. “They were definitely up and down all night until about 4 a.m.,” the homeowner said, who added that they bought the Bruce Avenue home a little over a year ago and that such a violent incident occurring next door is frightening.
She said in January, there was a more minor incident, when she woke up at 7 a.m. to someone smashing one of her windows. Someone had broken windows all along the street, in what was assumed to be a theft attempt.
“So I’ve been on edge since then,” she said.
