BRASS KNUCKLES STILL POPULAR A 15-year-old youth will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested by City Police at 2:30 am. Police attended in the downtown after receiving a call of a male acting suspiciously.

A 15-year-old youth will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested by City Police at 2:30 am. Police attended in the downtown after receiving a call of a male acting suspiciously. The young person was on a probation order at the time, and when officers checked the youth located a set of brass knuckles. The young person was charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon and one count of breach of probation for failing to keep the peace and be good.

SOMETHING ABOUT 2:30 IN THE MORNING

A 17 year-old youth will also be in bail court this morning. It is alleged the accused was observed walking in the downtown area around 2:30 this morning with another youth that they were not allowed to communicate with. The accused also indicated to officers that they had just left an address that if was known the youth was not to be at. The youth was charged with 2 counts of breaching a release document for associating with the other youth when communication was not allowed, and for attending an address to which they were not allowed to attend.

PROTECTING VICTIM IDENTITY

A 27-year-old male was arrested early last evening for breaching his release document. The accused was on a release document related to an ex girlfriend, in which he is not allowed to communicate with the victim. It is alleged that male called the female on the phone on 3 separate occasions from June 15th to June 24th. The male was charged with three count of breaching his release document. His name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.

BREAKS WINDOW: BUSTED

23-year-old Wesley Hallum of 63 Foothill Rd, was arrested last night and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 after it is alleged he broke a window in a building in the 100 block of Queen Street East. He will appear in court on July 26th.

SELLING DRUGS

22-year-old David Allan Wilson of 668 Farwell Terrace has a court appearance on July 26th, after officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit arrested him yesterday. It is alleged the accused was selling drugs and when checked by officers he had a small amount of crack cocaine and marihuana on him. The estimated value of the drugs is $200. Mr. Wilson was charged with 2 counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

RUNS RED LIGHT

Last night around 11:30 pm officers from the Traffic Section investigated an accident with minimal injuries at the intersection of Bay St and East Street. It is alleged that a car driven by Tina Leith, age 66, of 804-4 East Street was traveling south on East Street and failed to stop for the red light. The Leith vehicle collided with an eastbound car on Bay Street driven by Frank Halford, age 61, of 284 Millcreek Drive. A passenger in the Halford vehicle, 55 year-old Jacqueline Halford, received minimal injuries. Damage to the vehicles was described as light to moderate. Mrs. Leith was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with red light-proceed before green.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE KIDS

Last night the Downtown Kiwanis hosted the Safety Patrollers Award Banquet. At the end of May, 39 Patrollers from schools throughout the City were taken to Ottawa in recognition for the great job they did at their schools. Last night’s dinner acknowledged a number of schools and patrollers as well. Here is the break down of the awards:

Best Patrol: Grandview School (Public School) and St Patrick’s School (Separate School)

Runner – Up: Queen Elizabeth School (Public School) and Holy Family School (Separate School)

Best Bus Patrol-All School System: Sister Mary Clare School

Best Female Patroller: Courtney Robertson –East View School (Public School)

Best Female Patroller: Riley-Jo Hodgson-Notre Dames Des Ecole (Separate School)

Best Male Patroller: Dale Johnson-Mountain View Public School (Public School)

Best Male Patroller: Joel Muto-Cardinal Leger (Separate School)

Also the Safety Patrollers Committee, presented an award separately:

Best Patroller Overall: Errin Walls-St. Theresa School. She received the Ray Brown Award.
