The first long weekend of summer is upon us now. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public to drive responsibly this holiday weekend. Please do not drink and drive, this also includes boating. Also if you are traveling ensure your home is locked up and speak to your neighbours about keeping an eye on your
place and reporting any suspicious activity. Allow yourself a little extra time to reach your destination since the traffic may be heavy. Also, remember to buckle up.

Three People To Appear In Bail Court This Morning

1) A 17-year old youth was arrested on the 17th of May on an outstanding warrant for one count of unlawfully at large. It is alleged that in the fall of 2005 the youth left a detention home where they were serving a custody period. The youth was arrested without incident.

2) A 29-year old male was arrested last night and charged with two counts of assault in relation to a domestic dispute. It is alleged that on the 14th of May the accused assaulted his girlfriend by grabbing her wrist and twisting her arm. It is further alleged that when the victim went to leave the downtown residence they were in the male allegedly grabbed the female by putting his hand over her mouth and forcing her back into the home.

3) A 34-year old male was arrested and charged with one count of assault just after midnight. It is alleged that the male assaulted his common-law wife by punching her in the head several times. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident.

Theft

46-year old Colleen Trudeau of 43 Crawford Avenue was charged on the 17th of May with one count theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused stole approximately $80 in meat from Rome’s Your Independent Grocer located on Great Northern Road. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. She will appear in court on June 26th.

Assault

24-year old Alfred Hoolahan of 300-365 Lake Street was arrested on the 17th of May and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a male by kicking the victim in the face. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time. The accused will appear in court on June 26th.

18 Yr Old Charged With Assault

An 18-year old person was arrested on the 17th of May and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). It is alleged that in the evening of the 17th of May the accused assaulted a male known to the accused by punching the male in the head. It is alleged that the accused took a knife out of his pocket and gestured it towards the victim. The male victim was with other persons who advised they were calling the police. The accused then fled the area. The incident occurred on Farwell Terrace. The accused was located a short time later and was charged with assault. The accused will appear in court on June 26th. Due to the YCJA charged the name of the 18-year old accused cannot be released.

Electric Razor & Scissors Stolen

On the 17th of May 23-year old Ryan O’Dell of 4790 Second Line West was charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that on the 25th of April the accused stole an electric razor and scissors from an address in the 100 block of Ontario Avenue. The accused will appear in court on June 19th.

Impaired Driver Hits Hydro Pole

Yesterday morning just after 7 am a vehicle hit a hydro pole in the 200 block of Albert Street East. It is alleged that the driver of the car then fled the scene headed towards Gore Street. A witness followed the car to the area of Manilla Terrace where police attended. When police they observed the male exiting the car and it is alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol. 47-year old Gregory Pitawanakwat of 4-244 Queen Street East has been charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit, one count of breach of probation and one count of fail to stop at scene of an accident. He will appear in court on June 19th.

Break & Enters

There were a number of break and enters reported on the 17th and 18th. They include:

1) On the 17th of May a home in the 300 block of Walls Road was entered sometime between 9:30 am and 12 noon. Thieves stole jewellery and a Toshiba lap top computer.

2) A home in the 500 block of Connaught Avenue was entered sometime in the afternoon of the 17th and jewellery was also taken.

3) Yesterday afternoon a home in the 300 block of Borden Avenue was entered. It is unknown at this time what was taken and the incident is under investigation.

4) Yesterday a homeowner in the 100 block of Elmwood Avenue reported that sometime on the 16th of May their home was broken into. Items taken include a 27-inch television, a Dell computer, and a Sony camcorder.
