A local driver has been charged after a single-vehicle crash over the weekend.
Around 1 a.m. on Oct. 8, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's Patrol Services Unit responded to the crash, which happened on Queen Street near Churchill Boulevard.
When officers arrived, police found a vehicle which had struck a telephone pole, which caused significant damage, and two people outside of the vehicle who had not sustained any physical injuries.
Police say the officers checked the vehicle and found a can of alcohol.
Officers spoke with the people outside the vehicle and the accused identified themselves as the driver.
The accused provided multiple breath samples into a screening device and all results were above the legal limit and the driver was arrested.
Mitchel Nisbet, 29, has been charged with:
- operation while impaired – drugs and/or alcohol
- operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80+)
- dangerous operation
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Nisbet is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
