Man arrested in the Sault after replica firearms and drugs seized

A tip from a concerned citizen led to the arrest of a man carrying fake weapons and various illicit substances on Tancred Street

Sault Ste. Marie Police officers arrested a 43-year-old man on Wednesday morning after a 911 caller reported seeing someone with what looked like a gun in the 100 block of Tancred Street. 

Officers located and arrested the accused.

Police say they searched the man and found two replica firearms, approximately 10.35 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 6.46 grams of suspected cocaine, around 1.27 grams of suspected fentanyl, and approximately $1,000 in Canadian currency. 

The estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $1,871.50, police said in a news release. 

Brian Desmoulin is charged with:

  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition
  • Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance x2
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently remanded.

None of the accusations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
