A 31-year-old faces multiple charges stemming from an incident that took place earlier this week.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie police say on March 31, officers responded to a robbery call at a business in the 200 block of Bay Street. Police say the accused smashed a glass display case using a brick and stole more than $38,000 of merchandise from the business.

Police responded to another call around 8:40 a.m. on April 2 of a person obstructing traffic on Langdon Road.

Officers were dispatched to the area at the same time 911 communicators received a report of the same person attempting to enter the residence of someone unknown to them on Cooper Street.

Officers located the accused in the 500 block of Goulais Avenue, and they were arrested.

Police searched the accused where they located approximately 10.12 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 2.28 grams of suspected fentanyl, and three bullets. Officers determined the accused matched the description of the suspect involved in the robbery on March 31, 2025.

As a result, Michael Rivers was arrested and charged with:

  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Careless Storage of Ammunition
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order x10
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance x2

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently remanded. Officers with the Anishinabek Police Service were searching for Rivers in Garden River in late March.

None of the accusations have been tested in court and Rivers is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
