Sault Police has announced an arrest in relation to the recent shooting death of a 25-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man.

On Saturday, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release that 26-year-old Christian Tucci has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, among other charges, in relation to the fatal shooting.

A 911 call was received by police on March 27 when gunfire at a multi-unit residence in the 600 block of Bay Street was reported.

The 25-year-old victim was found with a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital where he later died.

Police identified Tucci through an investigation and arrested him on Friday in the 200 block of Wellington Street West.

He is charged with manslaughter, fail to comply with a probation order, as well as four counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.

None of the accusations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Tucci was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Court documents show Tucci was sentenced for a single count of assault in June 2024 in relation to an Oct. 31, 2023 choking incident.

An additional eight charges against him at that time, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, among others, were withdrawn to reach that plea before Justice John Condon.

Tucci spent 99 days in pre-sentence custody at the time and was released on time served, with 12 months probation. Included with that sentencing was a 10-year probation against possessing weapons.

In a separate 2023 sentencing, Tucci was convicted of one count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and received time served and was ordered to be under a weapons ban.

In that case, a second charge of possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking was withdrawn.
