The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public that by taking some preventative steps you could avoid being a victim of any of the above crimes.
When shopping in a store, never leave your purse in the cart. Keep in on you at all times. If you purchase your groceries with a debit card, you can easily carrying your driver’s licence and a debit card in your pocket, eliminating the need for a purse.

Never leave valuables in you vehicle. If you have to leave something of value when you are out and about, lock it in the trunk. Leaving anything of value out in the open and unlocked is an invitation to thieves.

It may seem like a nuisance to have to carry your purse at all times, hide things in your vehicle or take them out before leaving your vehicle; but in the long run it is quicker and easier than having to notify all of the agencies of your lost information. It also reduces your chance of becoming a victim of identity theft.
