Male Charged on Numerous Counts

A 22-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday. It is alleged that yesterday afternoon the male assaulted his ex-girlfriend in a downtown residence by jumping on her and pulling her hair. The male also threatened to kill her. A third party called the police to report the assault and the accused later called that person and threatened to kill them. At the time of the offences the accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The accused was arrested without incident last evening and has been charged with one count of assault, 2 counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and two counts of breach of probation.

Male Turned Himself In

On the 3rd of December in the afternoon hours a 48-year old male attended at the station and turned himself as he was wanted for an incident involving his ex-girlfriend. It is alleged that on the 26th of November the accused assaulted the victim by striking her in the head with a wooden crutch. The victim did not require medical treatment. The accused has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and will appear in court on January 10, 2005.

Male Charged With Driving With Suspended License

On the 3rd of December just before 10 pm City Police stopped a vehicle in the p-patch area. A query of the driver revealed that his driver license was suspended. 28-year old Bryan Young of 163 Anna Street has been charged with one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified-court order. He will appear in court on January 10, 2005.

Ride Program

On the 4th of December just before 2 am a driver of a car caught the attention of officers conducting a R.I.D.E. stop. The car did a u-turn just prior to where the stop was set up and as a result one of the cruisers followed the vehicle and stopped it a short distance away. The male driver was asked to provide a breath sample and he refused to do so. 25-year old Joshua Smith of 1748 Queen Street East has been charged with one count of fail to provide breath sample. He will appear in court on January 10, 2005.
Over the weekend the R.I.D.E. program checked 332 cars. 5 roadside tests were given, 1-12 hour suspension was issued, one 90-day suspension was issued and one person was charged with fail to provide a sample.

Male Charged With Fraud

On the 4th of December Kevin Bird, age 42, of 212-769 Pine Street turned himself into City Police. It is alleged that on the 10th of November the accused used stolen credit cards to make purchases from Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart. The total of the purchases was just under $500. Mr. Bird has been charged with 2 counts of possession of stolen credit card and 2 counts of fraud. He will appear in court on January 10, 2005.

Break and Enters

On the 3rd of December Ianni’s Tailors on Bruce Street reported a break and enter overnight in which a small amount of money was taken. On the 3rd a homeowner in the 1600 block of Wellington Street East reported his garage broken into. Items taken include a table saw, a compound saw, grinders and a fish finder. Shortly after 1 am on December 5th homeowners in a residence on St. Basil Drove awoke to someone trying to break into the home. City Police were called and officers are continuing their investigation into this matter. The only description available was that 2 young males were seen running from the area.
