Patrol officers arrested 19-year old Christopher Shean of no fixed address shortly after midnight this morning. It is alleged that on the 5th of February around 3:30 pm the accused stole a purse from an elderly lady in the downtown area. The victim was walking in the Zellers Parking lot of the Station Mall when the male grabbed her purse resulting in struggle with the victim. The accused was able to get the purse from the victim and the victim and her walker fell to the ground. The victim did not require medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The accused fled the scene on foot and officers were unable to locate the accused at the time. Late last night patrol officers came into contact with the accused in the downtown area and through the course of their investigation they received information that lead to the accused being arrested for the robbery from the 4th. The accused will appear in bail court this morning and has been charged with one count of robbery.

Release from February 3rd:

Officers from the Fraud Unit arrested 18-year old Crystal McCormick of 60 Pozzebon Crescent yesterday. It is alleged that the accused took 15 blank Western Union cheques from her place of employment and between September and February did cause a number of financial institution to act on those money orders as if they were genuine. The theft involved did not exceed $5,000. The accused has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and 8 counts of uttering forged documents and will appear in court on March 7th.

Update:

31-year old Gray Latvanen of 19 Anna Street will appear in bail court this morning. Mr. Latvanen was arrested for his involvement from an incident involving an arrest last week. It is alleged that the accused used a number of stolen money orders and cashed them in that had been given to him by Crystal McCormick. The Fraud Unit has charged Mr. Latvanen with one count of possession of stolen property, 5 counts of fraud under $5,000, 5 counts of uttering forged document and one count of breach of recognizance for failing to reside with his surety.

Break and Enter

19-year old Sean Wilson of 146 Biggings Avenue will also appear in bail court this morning. Officers from the Investigation Services Section were able to link the accused to a break and enter that had occurred on the 14th of October 2004 to a home in the 1300 block of Fourth Line East. The accused was on probation at the time of the offence to keep the peace and be good. The accused has been charged with one count of breach of probation and one count of break and enter and commit an offence.

Domestic Disputes

City Police were kept very busy this weekend answering domestic dispute calls. City Police responded to 14 calls of this nature and 5 males will all be appearing in bail court this morning to answer to a number of charges related to this type of crime. The males ages range from 28 to 51, and the charges include assault, threatening, breach of release orders, breach of probation order and criminal harassment. In one of the calls a 49-year old male was charged with obstruct police officers when he kept trying to enter the room in which officers were attempting to speak to the female victim. None of the female victims required medical treatment at the time of the incidents.

Neighbours Help Police

Alert neighbours assisted patrol officers in apprehending 2 youths on February 4th around 10 pm. A neighbour noticed 2 youths entering another neighbour’s car in the 200 block of Meadow Park Crescent and called police. Officers were able to find the youths hiding in the immediate area. The thieves had taken a 35 mm camera from the car, which was recovered from one of the accused. Both of the youths have been charged with one count of trespass by night, and one count of theft under $5,000. One of the youths faces an additional charge of possession of property obtained by crime. Both youths will appear in court on March 8th.

Impaired Driving

23-yar old Michael Morris of 1688 Arthur Street, Richards Landing was arrested on the 5th of February for impaired driving. Shortly after 2 am that morning the accused was observed to make a quick “u” turn in front of a police vehicle which caught the officers attention in the area of Falldien Road. When officers stopped the vehicle the driver showed signs of impairment. The accused has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on March 7th.

On the 6th of February around 6 pm another driver’s poor driving habits caught the attention of officers on Korah Road. When officers stopped the vehicle they found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. 31-year old Dean Daigle of 3305 Second Line West has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on March 14th.

Break and Enter Calls

Between 6 am Friday morning and 6 am this morning City Police attended for 5 break and enter calls. On the morning of the 4th Suzanne Hair Designs on Bruce Street reported a break and enter that had occurred over night. Thieves made off with a small-undisclosed amount of change. On the afternoon of the 4th a home in the 100 block of Albert St E was entered and an X-box was taken. Overnight between the 4th and the 5th thieves entered a home in the 500 block of Queen Street West and made off with food and model motorcycles. Around 11 pm on the evening of the 5th thieves broke into Fashion First on Wellington Street West. If is unknown at this time if anything was taken. Shortly before 2 am this morning thieves attempted to break into the Fraternal Order of Eagles located at 246 Wellington Street West but were unsuccessful.
