1) Never leave children or pets unattended in the vehicle, even if just of a short period of time. Vehicle temperatures can quickly heat up considerably higher than outside temperatures.

2) Make sure you keep yourself and family members well hydrated. Your body needs water to stay cool. Even if you don’t feel thirsty, continue to drink.

3) Where a hat, dress cool and put on sunscreen.

4) Don’t get too much sun. This is a good time to head to the mall or areas where there is air conditioning if you do not have it in your home.

5) Slow down-strenuous activities should be reduced or rescheduled to the coolest time of the day.

6) During this period of high temperatures many residences are leaving their doors and windows open during the daytime and nighttime. Insecure homes can be an easy target for people involved in criminal activity. Secure your windows and patio doors while away from home. If you are out in the backyard, make sure your entry doors are locked, including your garage door.
