Five Bail Court Appearance Arrests

Three adult males are appearing in bail court this morning relation to domestic related incidents over the weekend:

1) A 26 year-old male was arrested on the 30th of April at his residence after he allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill his common-law partner at their residence. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result. He is charged with one count of assault and one count of threatening death or bodily harm.

2) A 24 year-old male was arrested on the 2nd of May at 1:40 pm at a west end residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that the accused attended at his girlfriend’s residence earlier in the day and assaulted her and struck her with a liquor bottle.

3) A 48 yer-old male was arrested on the 2nd of May at 6:42 am at his residence and charged with one count of assault with a weapon after he allegedly attended at his girlfriend’s home, got into a verbal argument with her and burnt her with a cigarette. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result.

Male Arrested for Obstruct Peace Officer

18 year-old Thomas Alfred Agawa of #2-11 Hughes Street was arrested on the 1st of May at 7:03 pm on Queen Street East and charged with obstruct peace officer and one count of intoxicated in a public place. It is alleged that on the 1st of May, around 7 pm, city police found the accused in an intoxicated condition in the downtown area and at the time police were dealing with him, he falsely identified himself.

Male Arrested for Making Threats

21 year-old Joshua Vanatta of 343 Korah Road was arrested on the 30th of April at 5:07 pm at the city police station and chard with one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of breach a release document. It is alleged that on the 30th of April while in the downtown area, the accused threaten to harm a male known to him. At the time the accused was on an undertaking release order not to communicate with the victim.

Three Persons Charged as a result of Drug Warrant Search

On the 2nd of May at approximaltey 2:20 pm, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Street Team executed a search warrant at #2-603 Queen Street West. During the search police located a small amount of cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana, as well as various prescription pills. As a result three persons were arrested and charged:

1) 19 year-old Derrick, Daniel Derasp of that address, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of breach of probation. He was on probation conditions to keep the peace and be good.

2) 41 year-old Corry Sue Derasp of that address was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She is to appear in court on the 14th of June.

3) 52 year-old Allan Harkins of 75 Goulais Avenue was charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. He is to appear in court on the 31st of May.

Two Males Arrested for Setting Fire to Outside Stairs of a Residence on Metzger Street

On the 1st of May at approximately 5:04 am, City Police and Fire Services were called to a fire at a residence on Metzger Street. When arriving, they discovered that the outside front wooden stairs of the residence was on fire. Fire Services put the fire out. Police investigated the incident and determined that it was arson, and two males that were at the residence at the time, were allegedly responsible. As a result of their investigation, the two males were arrested and charged. The first male, 20 year-old Lee Gamble of 732 Metzger Street was charged with one count of arson. He is to appear in court on the 14th of June. The second male, 19 year-old James Vernelli of 1354 Queen Street East was charged with one count of arson and one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling. He is to appear in court on the 14th of June. The accused persons and the owner of the residence where the fire was set are known to each other.

Break and Enters

• A residence on McMeeken Street was entered sometime between midnight and 2 am on the 2nd of May. A purse was reported stolen.
• A residence on London Street was entered on the evening of the 1st of May. A Bravia Television was reported stolen.
• The Dunwright Rubber and Plastics business on Dundas Street was entered at around 10 pm on the 1st of May. The alarm was activated and police could not locate any suspects at the time of arrival. It is not known at this time if anything was taken.
• A Honda 4 stroke outboard motor was stolen from the storage area of the Boniferro Mill Works on Third Line West.
• A shed at Greenwood Public school on Fourth Line East was broken into on the 30th of May. Nothing was taken.

Thefts

• Vehicles were broken into in the east end, west end, the Cambrian Mall parking lot and the P-Patch. A cell phone, a GPS, a wallet, cash and change were some of the items reported stolen.
• Four lawn chairs were reported stolen from a property on Woodward Avenue.
• Bikes were reported stolen from Heath Road and Placid Avenue.
• Ladder parts were stolen from a property on Dablon Avenue.
• A rear licence plate was stolen off of a vehicle parked on Albert Street West.

Mischief/Arson Reports

• Police are investigating four dumpster fires that occurred over the weekend. There were two reported at approximately 4:13 am on the 1st of May where cardboard was set on fire in the dumpsters behind Blue Flame Gas at 1291 Wellington Street East and at the rear of Field’s at 25 Trunk Road. On the Saturday evening also on the 1st of May, a dumpster was set on fire at the rear of the Boston’s Ltd building at 415 Pim Street and then at approximately 8:18 pm and then one was reported two minutes later at the rear of the Cambrian Mall.
• Cedar hedges were lit on fire at a residence property in the 200 block of Doncaster Road.

Windows were reported broken at the Northern Credit Union on Second Line West, at Greenwood Public School on Fourth Line West, on vehicles on Adrian Drive and Albert Street West.
