Woman charged with forcible confinement and assault with a weapon

A 40-year-old was also charged with assault and uttering threats

Sault Ste. Marie police have charged a 40-year-old with assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

On March 29 around 3:30 p.m., police responded to a disturbance report at a multi-unit residence in the 600 block of Queen Street East. 

Upon arrival, officers located a victim being treated by EMS.

During the police's investigation, it was revealed that the accused had forcibly confined the victim, threatened them, punched them in the head and struck them with a pipe and a fire extinguisher.

The victim and accused are known to one another. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening physical injuries.

Ashley Hansford was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the accusations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
