The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the Collision Reporting Centre have seen an uptick recently in collision reports from people without valid insurance.
The issue has prompted a reminder from both to ensure that all the correct documents are available when reporting a crash.
Under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, all vehicles on provincial roadways must have valid insurance when being driven and the minimum fine for the owner of a vehicle that doesn't have valid insurance is $5,000.
