Police say a man faces charges after he was found asleep in the driver's seat and gave a false name to officers.
He then failed a field sobriety test and a drug test.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service says at around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday they received a 911 call about someone sleeping in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the 100 block of Glasgow Avenue.
Officers spoke to the driver, who identified himself with a name that was not his, police said in a news release.
Police "developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs," the release said.
The man was given a standardized field sobriety test and failed before being arrested, according to police.
He was then evaluated by a drug recognition expert who determined the accused was under the influence of drugs, police said.
Jeffrey Nakogee, 38, is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking x2
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Nakogee is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
