Mayor Offers Condolences

Mayor John Roswell has issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie I would like to express our condolences to the Doucette family in their loss of a very special person, a husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law and uncle.

The men and women of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service patrol our streets day and night with the intent of keeping us safe and out of harms way. It is a profession by their choice and our officers will put their life on the line to protect others.

Actions of others can result in an officer not coming home at the end of their shift and their family and co-workers suffer the loss of someone dear to them. This is what happened last night. Constable Don Doucette was critically injured and killed in the line of duty. He did not anticipate the tragic events of last night, but like every officer that serves the citizen’s of Sault Ste. Marie, he did so with pride as an officer of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

As Mayor, on behalf of the community, there are not enough words that can express our sympathy to Don’s family and to his extended police family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.”
