A 44-year-old female threw a drinking glass at a male. He went to hospital for stitches and she is going to WASH court this morning. The upset lady was charged with assault and threatening death. She cannot be identified as it would also likely identify the victim.

The Downbeat Bar on Queen Street East is just about the last place you’d expect fisticuffs. But it happened at 1:40 this morning when a 60-year-old man assaulted a bartender. He is in custody awaiting WASH court.

The remaining 5 people in the cells were sleeping it off.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The WASH court is in session on weekends and holidays. Each community in Northern Ontario takes a turn. One court handles the whole Northeastern Ontario region via video conferencing.
