Sault Police officers charged a 60-year-old man on Friday after he tried to use fraud to obtain free beverages.
The incident occurred at around 11:40 p.m. at a business in the 600 block of Queen Street East.
Upon arrival, officers learned the accused had requested staff members call emergency services but refused to identify himself and refused to pay for his beverages, police said in a news release.
Officers gave the accused another opportunity to pay but he refused. When officers advised him that he was being arrested, the accused threatened to fight them and physically resisted.
Justin Butorac was arrested and charged with:
- Fraudulently Obtaining Food, Beverage, or Accommodation
- Resist Peace Officer
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x 3
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the accusations have been tested in court and Butorac is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
