Sault Police say a man threatened a person with a knife downtown on Friday night — then sent threatening text messages to the same person right after he was released on bail the next day.
It all began on Sept. 20 around 8 p.m., when someone phoned 911 to report a stabbing in the area of East and Albert streets.
“An investigation revealed no one had been stabbed; rather, the accused had held a pocketknife to the victim while verbally threatening them,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The victim, who is known to the accused, sustained minor physical injuries.”
Shawn Andress, 57, was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and was subsequently released with conditions the next day, Sept. 21.
Shortly after he was released, police allege he sent threatening messages to the same victim as the night before. Andress was located in the 100 block of East Street and arrested again, police say.
He was further charged with uttering threats and failure to comply with a release order.
He was held in custody pending another bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Andress is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
