Male Charged with Assault Last evening a 22-year old male turned himself into City Police in relation to fight that occurred on the 11th of December in the City’s east end.

Last evening a 22-year old male turned himself into City Police in relation to fight that occurred on the 11th of December in the City’s east end. On that date shortly before 2 am the accused got into a fight with another male. During the fight the victim got the upper hand and at that time it is alleged that the accused took out a penknife and stabbed the victim in the face repeatedly. The accused fled the scene. The victim received injuries to his face however medical treatment was not sought at the time. The accused was also on probation at the time with conditions not to possess any weapons. 22-year old Justin Lewis of 58 Gibb Street has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of breach of probation. He will appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Dangerous Driving


29-year old James Ewart of 33-47 Lewis Road will appear in bail court this morning after he was arrested shortly before 2 am. Last night the accused failed to stop for the R.I.D.E. Unit that had been set up on Queen Street East near East Street. Officers who were conducting the stops had to jump out of the way of the speeding car. The accused then fled from the area and traveled down Queen Street East driving in a very dangerous matter with police in pursuit. The police called off the pursuit almost immediately due to concerns for public safety. The accused was noted to drive through a number of red lights, was observed driving at very high rates of speed and at one point almost collided with a snowplow at Queen Street East and Bruce Street. Officers in the area did check some lots and with the assistance of a number of witnesses located the male and the vehicle in the area of Queen Street and Gore Street. The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving and one count of failing to stop while being pursued by police.

Two Charges with Fraud

Yesterday afternoon City Police arrested 2 people in relation to fraud at the Sears Store in the Station Mall. It is alleged that 41-year old Paula Desrochers of 186 Tancred Street and 46-year old Steven Creighton of 234 Connaught St took items off of shelves, and then returned the items they had not purchased and used the refund money to purchase other items in the store. Both accused have been charged with one count of each of fraud under $5,000 and will appear in court on January 17th.

Male Charged with Property Obtained by Crime

Early this morning City Police arrested 26-year old Michael Abitone of 17 Grace Street for one count of possession of property obtained by crime. A victim had reported their jacket stolen to police and officers found the accused to have some of the belongings from the jacket pockets on him. He will appear in court on January 17th.


There were no break and enters reported in the last 24 hour period.
