One man has been charged with assault with a weapon after a knife was pulled during an early-morning altercation in the downtown area, City Police report.

The New Year's fight sent another man to hospital with minor leg wounds.

It happened about 20 minutes after the New Year began, in the 300 block of Alexandra Street.

Initial police reports indicate the two men had not attended the same party, but came across each other in the street and started to argue.

The name of the charged man was not immediately available.

Police also report one woman taken into custody after 6 a.m. today in regards to a domestic dispute on Wilding Avenue.

Otherwise, it was a busy night with police responding to noise complaints from New Year's parties across the city.
