COUNTERFEIT MONEY
A Thessalon man will appear in court on February 16th on several charges involving a large amount of counterfeit money. Kevin Stopes, age 26, of 92 Water Street, Thessalon was arrested last week by Detectives from the Fraud Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

He is charged with possession of counterfeit money, 2 counts of uttering counterfeit money, 2 counts of uttering a forged document and 1 count of laundering the proceeds of crime. These offences took place at the TD Canada Trust bank at 421 Bay Street where Mr. Stopes was employed as a teller.

ACCIDENT DRIVER IMPAIRED
Mark James Campbell, age 25 of 17 Genelle Street Thessalon will appear in court in February charged with Impaired driving causing bodily harm and Over 80mg. Mr. Campbell was operating a motor vehicle on Great Northern Road at 1:50 this morning when he lost control of the car.

Mr. Campbell had been traveling south bound on Great Northern Road approaching the Northern Ave. intersection where his car struck the island, rolled over onto its’ roof and struck a pole. Robert King age 32 also of Thessalon received minor injuries in the accident. The Campbell vehicle was severely damaged as a result of the accident.

2 BREAK INS OVERNIGHT
City Police officers are currently investigating 2 break-ins from overnight. At 3:15 am officers responded to the Bawating Quik Mart on Second Line and discovered that the store had been entered. Then at 3:34 am they attended at the Trunk Road Quik Mart and found that this store had also been entered. It is not known at this time what was taken from either store.

2 local men are in custody and will appear in bail court this morning after a break-in to a residence on Laird Street yesterday afternoon. Blake Tyler Hudson, age 21 of 170 Bruce Street is charged with Break and enter, breach of probation, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. Thomas Arthur Renner, age 19 of no fixed address is charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property.

When the homeowner returned to his house the 2 accused men fled the area on foot. Patrol officers caught up to Mr. Renner a short distance from the home where he was arrested and patrol officers were assisted by the police service canine unit was used to catch up to Mr. Hudson who was arrested on Railroad Ave
