The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to slow down and pay attention to the road conditions, especially those around intersections. In some areas the roads are slick with a bit of ice and in other areas they are wet. Allow yourself extra stopping time as well.

Wind Damage

City Board of Works, PUC, Police and Fire Services were kept busy yesterday and last evening responding to a number of calls of wires being down and fallen trees. None of the incidents resulted in harm to any persons.


Outstanding Warrants

43-year old Greg Beer of 1064 Gordon Street, Sudbury was arrested yesterday afternoon on a number of outstanding arrest warrants. The warrants stem from incidents in 2001 and 2002 and were for one count of theft under $5,000, one count of fail to appear for fingerprints and one count of fail to appear in court. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Male Charged with Breach of Probation

49-year old Peter Mattalo of 55 Johnson Avenue will also appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on the 9th of November the accused threatened to harm a number of persons known to the accused. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation. Mr. Mattalo has been charged with one count of threatening and one count of breach of probation.

Male Charged with Theft

35-year old Terry Syrette of 2-266 John Street was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that on the 5th of November the accused attended at H.R. Lash at 308 John Street and stole a Columbia jacket valued at $200. The accused will appear in court on November 28th.

Breach of Probation

23-year old Corey Blais of 2-733 Mackenzie Avenue was arrested yesterday morning and charged with one count of breach of probation and one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house. It is alleged that one the 15th of September the accused entered a residence of persons known to the accused in the 100 block of Goulais Avenue without permission. The accused will appear in court on the 12th of December.

Male Charged with Possession of Firearms

47-year old Joseph Tomchak of 2855 Green Street, St. Joseph Island was arrested and charged yesterday with one count of possession of firearms knowing possession unauthorized. It is alleged that the accused failed to register 5 firearms. The accused will appear in court on December 19th.

Vehicle Keyed and Stereo Stolen

City Police received one report of mischief and theft from a vehicle. A vehicle, parked in the 200 block of Lake Street, was keyed and also had it’s stereo stolen. The incident occurred sometime between the 8th and 9th of November at 10 pm and the noon.
