A 19-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just after midnight. It is alleged that the accused got into an argument with his girlfriend, which resulted in the police being called to a west end residence. The male was on a release order with conditions not to communicate or associate with the female. The male has been charged with one count of breach of a release document.

Male Charged with Robbery

27-year old Paul Van Geest of 298 Pine Street was arrested just after 3 am this morning. It is alleged that around 2 am this morning the accused and a male acquaintance were walking on Wemyss Street when it is alleged that the accused punched the male in the face, knocking him to the ground. Once the victim was on the ground the accused punched and kicked the victim and demanded his money. The accused fled the area on foot without obtaining any money. Patrol officers with the assistance of the K-9 Unit (Tazer) apprehended the accused after a short foot pursuit. The victim received non-life threatening injuries but did not require any medical treatment. Mr. Van Geest has been charged with one count of robbery and will appear in bail court this morning.

Break and Enter

Officers are currently investigating a break and enter to H.M. Robbins School at 83 East Balfour Street. Just before 4:30 am a report of a break and enter in progress was called in. 3 males were seen carrying computers in the area. It has been determined that computers were stolen from the school, and may consist of 6 hard drives and 2 monitors. If you have any information regarding this break and enter, or know where the stolen property may be, call City Police at 94-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867.


Youth Charged with Causing a Disturbance

Just before 1 am this morning officers attended in the 100 block of East Street regarding several persons making noise by yelling and screaming. When officers arrived in the area, they found 2 persons arguing over a bike. 21-year old Scott MacLeod of 328 Pim Street was arrested for causing a disturbance by swearing. There were several people in the immediate area at this time. While being placed under arrest the accused started to struggle with the officers. While being taken into custody the accused wiped his nose on one of the officers shirts. While they were arrested this male a 16-year old youth started to interfere with the arrest and began to kick the officers in the legs. The youth was arrested and taken into custody and refused to walk to the cruiser and had to be carried. The melee involving these 2 persons resulted in a crowd gathering to watch. Mr. Macleod has been charged with one count of resist arrest, one count of cause a disturbance by swearing and one count of assault police. He will appear in court on October 3rd. The 16-year old youth has been charged with one count of cause a disturbance by swearing and one count of obstruct police. The youth will appear in court on October 4th.


Yesterday’s news:

32-year old Robert Muhonen of 733 Metzger Street will appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on August 30th around 3:30 am the accused entered a vehicle in the 100 block of Laura Street and stole a wallet, cell phone and leather jacket from the vehicle. Last evening when officers from Investigation Services arrested the accused it is alleged that he had the stolen property with him. The accused was on probation at the time of the offences. It is further alleged that the accused failed to notify a change of address condition as set out in a release order. Mr. Muhonen has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of breach of a release order, one count of trespass by night and two counts of breach of probation.

UPDATE:

A 17-year old youth was arrested last evening for their involvement in this incident. It is alleged that the accused was found to be in possession of a credit card and identification belonging to the victim. The youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. The youth will appear in court on October 4th.

Boat and Motor Stolen

Just after 10 pm last night a homeowner in the 100 block of Breton Road called City Police to report that someone had just stolen their boat motor that had been in the back yard. 2 male suspects were responsible for the theft. One male was wearing a dark shirt and jeans. There is no further description available at this time.


Attempted Vehicle Entry

Just after 4 am this morning a homeowner in the 200 block of Glasgow Avenue called to report 2 youths were going through vehicles in the area. Both youths are described as males. One was heavier set with a black or dark shirt and the other ale had a light brown or beige shirt on. If you live in this area check your vehicle this morning to see if you were a victim of these two offenders.

Attempted Break and Enter to Local Jewellers

Just before 4:30 am this morning officers attended at Savoy’s Jewellers at 290 Queen Street East regarding a broken window. It appears that someone kicked in the glass in the door. Entry was not gained.
