Male Charged with Assault A 29-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just after midnight. It is alleged that the male assaulted his girlfriend by slapping her across the face.
Male Charged with Assault

A 29-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested just after midnight. It is alleged that the male assaulted his girlfriend by slapping her across the face. The incident occurred while they were visiting friends at a west end address. The accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good at the time of the offence. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation.

Breach of a Release Order

A 42-year old male will also appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on July 20th the accused contacted an ex-girlfriend by phone, while on a release document not to communicate with the female. The male was arrested yesterday morning and has been charged with one count of breach of a release order.

Youth Charged with Break and Enter

A 16-year old youth will also appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that on Saturday August 27th the accused broke into a vending machine located in the 200 block of Northern Avenue, and stole coins, a coin holder and chocolate bars from the machine. The youth was arrested yesterday and has been charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of fail to attend court, which was related to an outstanding warrant.

Male Charged with Mischief under $5000

Yesterday around noon hour City Police attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and charged an 18-year old inmate with one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that Robert Covert of 79 Chapple Street damaged a sprinkler in his cell area, which resulted in flooding of the cell area. The male will appear in court on November 21st.


City Police received 5 break and enter reports yesterday:

1) Just before 12 noon yesterday thieves broke into an address in the 900 block of Airport Road. Thieves made off with a china cabinet, dinnerware and collector plates.

2) Sometime between Saturday and Monday thieves broke into a home under construction in the 100 block of Fields Square and stole a radio and damaged 2 doors.

3) A home in the 2000 block of Base Line was entered yesterday during the day time hours, but nothing appears to have been taken.

4) A home in the 500 block of Fifth Line East was entered yesterday around suppertime. Nothing appears to have been taken in this incident.

5) A home in the 400 block of McNabb Street was entered yesterday during the afternoon and evening hours. Thieves stole a DVD player, a Play Station 2 and some games.

House Fire

Yesterday afternoon just before 4 pm City Police and Fire Services attended in the 100 block of Goulais Avenue regarding a house fire. No one was injured in the incident. City Police controlled traffic in the area while Fire Services contained the fire.
