Youth Arrested for Assault on Family Member A 14 year-old male youth was arrested on the11th of January at 6:30 pm at his residence and charged with one count of assault.

A 14 year-old male youth was arrested on the11th of January at 6:30 pm at his residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 11th of January at around 6 pm the accused assaulted a family member. He is to appear in court on the 16th of February.

Females Charged for Theft from High School Locker

A 16 year-old female youth was arrested on the 11th of January at 11:55 am at a local high school and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 11th of January around 9:30 am the accused and another 16 year-old female broke into a fellow student’s locker at the school and stole some clothing and an iPod. The accused is to appear in court on the 16th of February. The other female was diverted under the Youth Criminal Justice Act Diversion Program.

Three Persons Arrested on Outstanding Warrants

1) 26 year-old Mary Louise Morine of #408-100 James Street was arrested on the 11th of January at 10:35 am at the court house and charged with one count of fail to appear for prints from the 31st of December. She is to appear in court on the 22nd of February.
2) 29 year-old Duane Conway of #1-710 Second Line West was arrested on the 11th of January at 8:52 pm at his residence and charged with one count of fail to appear court from the 17th of June. He is to appear in court on the 22nd of February.
3) 32 year-old Joanne Vivier of 969 Queen Street East was arrested at on the 11th of January at 10:48 am at the city police station and charged with one count of fail to appear for court and one count of fail to attend for prints. She is to appear in court on the 22nd of February.

Residence Break and Enter Report
A residence on Wemyss Street was broken into yesterday. A Dell computer and two Samsung cell phones were reported stolen.

UPDATE – SUSPICIOUS CHILD DEATH INVESTIGATION
Police Make Arrest in Homicide of Three Year-Old

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) in conjunction with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have made an arrest in the investigation into the death of three year-old Aiden FLOYD-LAPINSKAS.

On November 12, 2009 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Aiden FLOYD-LAPINSKAS was transported to hospital after Ambulance Services responded to a report of a child in distress in an apartment on Old Garden River Road in Sault Ste. Marie. On November 16, 2009, the child died as a result of his injuries. On November 27, 2009 at the request of the SSMPS, the OPP CIB assumed the lead of this investigation.

On December 22, 2009, as a result of the information gathered during the ongoing investigation, police upgraded the case to a murder investigation.

This morning, the SSMPS arrested James PURCELL, aged 30 of Sault Ste. Marie, with one count of 2nd degree murder. Purcell is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Criminal Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on January 13, 2010.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the OPP would like to thank the citizens of who came forward with information to assist with this case.

The investigation is ongoing and under the direction of Detective Inspector Guy FAUCHER of the OPP CIB.
