Collision Involving Utility Pole Under Investigation
Last evening at 6:47 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at a single motor vehicle collision that involved a pickup truck that struck a utility pole at the intersection of Great Northern Road and Fifth Line. It is alleged that a Dodge Ram Pickup that was travelling northbound on Great Northern Road, left the roadway and struck a utility pole near Fifth Line. The truck received front end damage and the pole was severed. Fire, EMS and the PUC also assisted and attended on scene. Two persons were in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Non-life threatening injuries were reported to the passenger. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.

Male Arrested for Disqualified Driving
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 43-year-old Sean McLarty of 55 Edison Avenue at 5:33 pm on Cathcart Street after he was allegedly found operating a Ford Pickup with no plates on it on Hudson Street while he was disqualified and suspended. At the time of his arrest he was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of cocaine. As a result he was charged with one count of drive motor vehicle while disqualified, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, and one count of drive while suspended. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Shoplifting
Officers with the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested 29 year-old Mark Belisle of no fixed address on the 22nd of November at 7:45 pm at The Metro store on Churchill Boulevard and charged with one count of theft under$5,000, one count of assault, and one count of breach of a release document. It is alleged that the accused attended at the store yesterday and stole a quantity of meat and cheese. When security attempted to apprehend him just outside the store the accused resisted and continuously fought with the officer. Police attended and took the male into custody. At the time of the offence, the accused was under the influence of alcohol and was on an undertaking with conditions not to consume any. The security officer was not injured during the incident. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Two females were arrested yesterday morning at 10:40 am at Zellers on Northern Avenue after they allegedly attended at the store and stole a quantity of cosmetics. They were apprehended by store security and held for police. As a result, 24 year-old Dana King, of #5-593 Wallace Terrace, and 42 year-old Karen Desjardins, of #4-593 Wallace Terrace, were charged with one count each of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of stolen property. They are to appear in court on the 10th of January 2011.

20 year-old Valerie Pelky, of 113 Rob Street, in Blind River was arrested on the 22nd of November at 1:20 pm at Zellers in the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under$5,000. It is alleged that she attended at the store yesterday afternoon and stole a quantity of cosmetics. She was apprehended by stored security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 10th of January 2011.

Males Arrested on Outstanding Warrants
Officers with the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested 25 year-old Colin Nickel, of 37 Nichol Avenue, yesterday morning at the police station and charged him with one count of fail to appear in court. It is alleged that the accused failed to appear in court on the 13th of September for a theft related charge. He is to now appear in court on the 10th of January 2011.

38 year-old Craig Witty of no fixed address was arrested on an outstanding warrant yesterday morning on Allan Street and charged with one count of mischief over $5,000, one count of mischief under $5,000, and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused was wanted for an incident that took place on the 24th of September when he and another male caused damage to a Ford Mustang vehicle and then smashed a window of a residence of a person known to them in the 200 block of Wallace Terrace. At the time of the incident the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The second male, known to police, is still being sought. This accused is to appear in court on the 10th of January 2011.

Male Youth Arrested and Charged with Mischief
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 13 year-old male youth on the 22nd of November at 10:30 am at a centrally located residence and charged him with one count of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that on the evening of the 21st of November the accused spray painted a Ford Windstar van parked on Vesta Place and then attended at the Market Mall and sprayed some of the walls and doors and a dumpster. He is to appear in court on the 4th of January 2011.

A 14 year-old male youth was arrested by officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service last night at 10:40 pm at his residence and charged with one count of mischief after he allegedly caused damage to a window inside the home by kicking it. He is to appear in court on the 4th of January 2011
