The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to slow down and pay attention to children on our City Streets. Students from the Algoma District School Board are back to school this morning. Also pay attention to the school bus and remember to stop when the red lights are flashing and stop sign is out.


On Friday City Police released information regarding a missing person, William Cardiff. Mr. Cardiff has been located and is fine.

5 Domestic Related Incidents

1) A 27-year old male was arrested on September 3rd around 1:30 am. City Police were called to a west end residence where it is alleged that the male assaulted his common law girlfriend by punching her in the head and pushing her into a wall. The victim did not require any medical treatment. The accused has been charged with one count of assault.

2) A 33-year old male was arrested on September 3rd just after 5 am. It is alleged that the accused got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend in a downtown residence. The police were called. The accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good as well as being on a release document with terms not to consume alcohol and not to molest, harass or annoy the female. The accused has been charged with one count of breach of probation and two counts of breach of a release order.

3) On the 4th of September in the evening hours, it is alleged that a 44-year old male assaulted his pregnant common law girlfriend by shoving her into a dresser. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with terms not to consume alcohol. He had been drinking at the time of the offence. The accused was arrested just after midnight and charged with one count of assault and two counts of breach of probation. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time.

4) A 37-year old male was arrested on the 4th of September just after 4 am. It is alleged that the male assaulted his girlfriend in an east end residence by punching her in the face and head and pushing her across the bedroom. The female left the residence and called police. When officer attended to arrest the male he fought and struggled with the officers. The accused was taken into custody. While on route to the station the accused advised the officers that he was going to shoot them. The male has been charged with one count of assault, one count of resist arrest and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.

5) A 31-year old male was arrested on September 5th and charged with one count of assault and one count of threatening. It is alleged that the male assaulted his common law girlfriend by pushing her in an east end parking lot and also threatened her. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released.

Impaired Driver

On September 2nd just after 9 pm City Police received a call regarding a possible impaired driver on McNabb Street in the area of the YMCA. Officers attended in the area and stopped a Jeep in the YMCA parking lot. The accused displayed signs of impairment and was arrested. 23-year old Adam Reed of no fixed address has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired driving.


Males Charged With Mischief

18-year old Jeffrey Pollock of 624 Shafer Avenue was arrested on September 3rd just after 3 am and charged with one count of mischief. It is alleged that the accused urinated in an elevator while in an apartment complex on Allard Street. Alcohol was involved in the incident. The accused will appear in court on October 17th.

19-year old Shaun Parniak of 19 Avon Avenue will appear in court on October 19th. It is alleged that on the 4th of September the accused threatened a female known to him and also placed a pellet gun to the victim’s head and pulled the trigger, shooting out a burst of air. The incident occurred in the City’s west end in the afternoon. The accused has been charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm, one count of possession for a purpose dangerous to the public and one count of pointing a firearm. The victim did not receive any injuries in the incident.

Youth Attempts Theft

On the 3rd of September around 4:30 am it is alleged that a 16-year old youth attended in the 100 block of Broadview Drive and attempted to steal an ATV. A neighbour apprehended the youth and called the police. The youth has been charged with one count of trespass by night and one count of attempt theft and will appear in court on October 18th.

Drug Charges Laid

Just after 2:30 am on September 5th City Police attended at 49 Borron Avenue Unit #1 regarding possible use of illegal drugs. Officers attended at the residence and as a result of their investigation located a small quantity of cocaine, less than 1 gram. Officers charged 2 persons each with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. Both will appear in court on October 17th. 47-year old Yvon Chartrand and 34-year old Rhonda Hudebine, both of that address, were charged.

Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation Complete

Officers from Traffic Services have completed their investigation into a motor vehicle collision on Friday afternoon at Bay Street and Brock Street. It is alleged that a car operated by 49-year old Colleen Cedolia of 131 East Champagne failed to stop for the red light while traveling eastbound on Bay Street. The Cedolia car collided with a van traveling southbound on Brock Street operated by 42-year old Robert Kot of 59 William Street. When the van was struck it slide and rolled over on its roof coming to a stop just west of the roadway. The collision sent 5 persons to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. This included the 2 drivers and one passenger from the car and 2 from the van. All persons were treated and released. The car received severe damage and the van was demolished in the collision. Colleen Cedolia has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light-fail to stop.


Break and Enter

On the 4th of September a homeowner in the 400 block of Northland Road reported that their garage had been entered sometime between 11 pm on the 3rd and 8 am on the 4th. Thieves made off with 2 toolboxes, a DVD player and a power washer.
