Collision Involving Police Cruiser Update: Male Arrested Identified:

On the 12th of August at approximately 8 am a City Police Traffic Officer conducting radar on Goulais Avenue observed two northbound vehicles traveling side by side at a high rate of speed. One of the vehicles, a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu was travelling in the wrong lane and forced oncoming traffic to the shoulder area to avoid being struck. The officer attempted to pull both vehicles over, one vehicle a GMC Sonoma pulled over and stopped and the Chev Malibu fled towards Second Line West. Police caught up to the fleeing vehicle on Allen’s Side Road and attempted to pull it over. The vehicle failed to stop and proceeded through the intersection at Second Line West without stopping for the stop sign, resulting in a collision involving another police cruiser that was westbound on Second Line West turning left onto Allen Side Road. The male officer and the accused driver were both sent to hospital with minor injuries and later released. There were no other passengers in the vehicles at the time and both were heavily damaged. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending against the male driver of the GMC Sonoma.

The driver of the Chev Malibu, 22 year-old Kevin Brissette of #807-631 McDonald Avenue was taken into custody and has been charged with one count of Operate Motor Vehicle while Disqualified, one count of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, one count of Fail to Stop for Police, one count of Dangerous Driving while Street Racing, one count of Operate Motor Vehicle No Insurance and one count of Fail to Wear Seatbelt. He is to appear in court on the 14th of September.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending against the male driver of the GMC Sonoma.

The area of Allen’s Side Road just south of Second Line West remains closed while traffic officers complete their investigation.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 35 year-old male was arrested on the 11th of August at 7:03 am at his residence and charged with one count of Assault. It is alleged that on the 11th of August at approximately 5:30 am the accused assaulted his common law partner at their residence. The victim had to receive medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.

Male Arrested for Drug Possession and Causing a Disturbance:

18 year-old Mark Shuttleworth of 124 Willowdale was arrested on the 11th of August at 10:19 pm on Taskar Drive and charged with one count of Cause Disturbance and one count of Possession of a Controlled Drug or Substance. It is alleged that around 9:10 pm last night City Police received a call regarding a large party in the Birchwood Park area. When police arrived in the area, the accused caused a disturbance by yelling and swearing at the officers. When he was arrested, he was found in possession of a small amount of hash oil. He is to appear in court on the 14th of September.

Female Youth Arrested for Shoplifting:

A 17 year-old female was arrested on the 11th of August at 3:55 pm at the Cambrian Mall after she allegedly attended at the Urban Planet Store and stole some items. She has been charged with one count of Theft under $5,000.00 and will appear in court on the 15th of September.

Property Crimes:

Break and Enter Reports:


• The Compound area and a shed were entered on the property of the Northern Development Mines and Forestry on Fish Hatchery Road was entered on the 11th of August. A generator, an outboard motor and a splitter were reported stolen.
• A building in the 900 block of McNabb Street was entered sometime overnight on the 10th of August. A Laptop and numerous tools were reported stolen.
• A garage on Korah Road was entered and an air compressor and a drill were reported stolen.
• A construction trailer at the construction site in the 900 block of McNabb Street was entered sometime overnight on the 11th of August. Tools and survey equipment were stolen.

Mischief Reports:

• A vehicle tail light was smashed on John Street.
• A window was smashed at a residence on Pim Street.
• Tires were slashed on a vehicle parked on Queen Street.

Thefts:

• Two televisions were reported stolen from Leon’s Furniture.
• A wallet was reported stolen at the YMCA.
• Bicycles were reported stolen on Churchill Boulevard, Palomino Drive, Country Club Place, and Creekside Lane.
